Great Lakes Energy does not sell propane gas. At one time, Great Lakes Energy sold propane and offered other types of heating and cooling services, those operations were sold in 2003.

- Will the plastic from a Marathon water heater leech into the water?

No, it will not.
The chemical in question is BPA (Bisphenol A). The primary product area of concern is when this chemical is used in applications where children under 18 months old can be in contact with it (clear baby bottles, water bottles etc.). The chemical is used as a building block in producing polycarbonate and epoxy products.
BPA is not used to make the Marathon’s polybutene liners.

- How much is the controlled water heating load management credit?

The monthly credit is dependent on the size of the water heater and monthly usage. Monthly usage must be at least 350 kWh per month. Water heaters 30-49 gallons receive $4.50 a month, 50-79 gallons receive $6.00 a month, and 80 or larger gallons receive $7.50 a month.

Members must receive service under Rate Schedule A or GS and have an electric water heater at least 30 gallons in size or larger.

- What do I have to do to get the controlled heating discount?

Contact our office to make sure your account qualifies for the program. We will mail you a contract that must be filled out and returned. After we receive your signed contract, we will issue control equipment to you free of charge that needs to be installed by a licensed electrician and inspected the county electrical inspector.

- What is the discount for the controlled heating load management program?

Members with a non-electric backup heat receive a discount of 3 cents per kWh while members without a non-electric backup receive a discount of 1.5 cents per kWh.

You can enroll in our controlled heating program if you have a 240-volt electric resistance heating system as the primary source of heat for your home. In addition, your account must be getting service under our Rate Schedule A or GS.

Contact Great Lakes Energy to find out your minimum efficiency requirements and to receive an approval number. Your heating and cooling dealer cam tell you if the system you are going to purchase will meet the minimums.

- What are the electric heat rebates offered?

Great Lakes Energy offers a $250 rebate towards the purchase price of an air-source heat pump and a $500 rebate towards the purchase price of a geothermal heat pump system. Your system must meet minimum efficiency requirements to qualify.
