- People Fund grants awarded in southern and central areas

The People Fund Boards of Directors for the central and southern areas met on June 20 to award grants. The following organizations were awarded grant funding:
- LeRoy Razzasque Days, LeRoy: $2,759.94 for a permanent concession stand in the Village.
- Lake County Animal Control, Baldwin: $1,500 for a new animal box for an animal control truck.
- Sandcastles Children’s Museum, Ludington: $2,500 for an airplane exhibit.
- Andre Bosse Center, Ludington: $800 for a new copier.
- Project Starburst, Big Rapids: $1,000 for Project Connect.
- HELP, Ludington: $2,000 for emergency medical assistance.
- Sylvia’s Place, Allegan: $4,000 to purchase new appliances and some furnishings for domestic abuse shelter.
- Oceana County Council on Aging, Hart: $5,000 for volunteer driver mileage to transport seniors to out-of-county medical appointments.
- Christian Neighbors, Plainwell: $6,000 towards food, supplies and stockroom wages for the food pantry.
- Hart Lions Club, Hart: $4,000 for a Pedia-vision camera to perform vision testing on children.
- Village of Rothbury, Rothbury: $1,400 for a children’s summer enrichment program.
- Martin United Methodist Church, Martin: $1,500 for backpacks and school supplies for children in need.
- Love INC of Oceana County, Shelby: $2,300 for a cargo trailer so the group can pick-up large donated items.
- Walkerville Public Schools, Walkerville: $4,947.10 towards a community fitness room.
Non-profit organizations in the Great Lakes Energy service area can apply for a grant through the People Fund by calling Great Lakes Energy, 1-888-485-2537, ext. 1313. The next grant application deadline is October 1, 2012.
