Great Lakes Energy Holds District Elections

July 13, 2015

Mail-in ballots were recently sent to Great Lakes Energy members in districts 1, 2 and 7 who will elect a candidate from their district to serve on the electric cooperative’s board of directors.
Incumbent Mark Carson of Boyne City and challenger Ken Tough of Charlevoix are seeking to fill the director seat in District 2 (Charlevoix and Cheboygan counties). Incumbent Paul Schemanski of Petoskey runs unopposed in District 1 (Emmet County). Incumbent Paul Byl of Shelby is being challenged by Anne Pawlie of Montague for the board position in District 7 (Oceana and Muskegon counties).
Great Lakes Energy members in the three districts received a mail-in ballot and candidate information with their July/August edition of Michigan Country Lines magazine.
Members are asked to cast their vote and mail the postage-paid ballot to the Petoskey accounting firm handling the vote count. Returned ballots must be received by accountants by no later than Aug. 20.
The three winners, one from each district, will be announced Aug. 26 at the cooperative’s annual business meeting in Boyne City. Results will also be posted online at gtlakes.com
Remaining Great Lakes Energy members in districts 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 will vote by mail-in ballot in either 2016 or 2017. Members vote once every three years to elect a director to a three-year term.
