Restoration Efforts Continue

August 30, 2018: Great Lakes Energy (GLE) lineworker crews assisted by many outside crews continue restoration efforts today after storms and tornadoes on Monday and Tuesday evening caused widespread power line damage leaving GLE members in 26 counties without power.

As of 4:15 AM, there are 24,935 Great Lakes Energy members without power in all of the counties served by the cooperative. Members in Antrim, Kalkaska, Lake, Mason, Oceana and Newaygo counties are among the hardest hit which is also where the most severe weather, including tornadoes, were reported.

All GLE crews along with the help of contract crews will work to restore power and replace broken poles and downed power lines. The severity of the damage over a widespread area caused by the intense storms is slowing efforts as large trees and debris and broken poles must be removed in many areas. Restoration updates will take place throughout the day but if power is not restored by 10 PM GLE members should make alternative plans for the evening if necessary.

Great Lakes Energy members are reminded to stay away from downed power lines and also stay clear of trees and limbs hanging on the lines. Current outage information by counties and zip codes is updated on Storm Central.

Great Lakes Energy members can report their power outage by calling 888-485-2537, logging into their online GLE account or using the Great Lakes Energy mobile app.
