Ice and Wind Cause Power Outages for Great Lakes Energy Members

More than 9,300 Great Lakes Energy (GLE) members are without power this morning after an intense ice and wind storm hit northern portions of the cooperative’s 26-county service area. Since the storm began late yesterday, just over 3,800 members have had their power restored.

GLE line crews, contract crews, and mutual aid assistance from other cooperative utilities have been dispatched and are working to restore service to the affected members. Efforts are anticipated to be impacted by road conditions and damage to power lines and trees.

Outages are currently reported across eight counties throughout the Great Lakes Energy service territory. Areas most impacted by outages are Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego counties. Current outage information by county is updated on the Great Lakes Energy website, www.gtlakes.com, by visiting Storm Central.

For the safety of our members and our staff, please do not approach or engage with line crews working to restore power. Members using generators should ensure they are connected properly and legally with a transfer switch so they do not backfeed into the powerlines and cause harm to workers. Great Lakes Energy members are reminded to stay away from downed power lines and trees and limbs hanging on the lines.

Great Lakes Energy members can report their power outage through their online account, on the Great Lakes Energy app, or by calling 888-485-2537. Visit gtlakes.com/power-outages/ for updates.
