Power Outages Persist for Great Lakes Energy Members

March 29, 2025
7:30 p.m.

Boyne City, MI — More than 19,000 Great Lakes Energy (GLE) members are without power this evening after an intense ice and wind storm caused extensive damage to trees, powerlines, and poles. Since the storm began late yesterday, just over 18.900 members have already had their power restored.

GLE line crews, contract crews, tree trimming crews, and mutual aid assistance from other cooperative utilities continue efforts to restore power and repair damage to equipment. Downed power lines, broken poles, and trees across roads are impacting efforts. Continued bad weather is expected to cause more outages overnight and into tomorrow. If power is not restored by 10 p.m. tonight and is required, members should seek alternate arrangements.

Outages are currently reported across nine counties throughout the Great Lakes Energy service territory. Areas most impacted by outages are Charlevoix, Crawford, Emmet, and Otsego counties.

For safety reasons, please do not approach or engage with line or tree crews working to restore power. Members using generators should ensure they are connected properly and legally with a transfer switch so they do not backfeed into the powerlines and cause harm to workers. Always stay away from downed power lines and trees and limbs hanging on the lines.

Great Lakes Energy members can report their power outage through their online account, on the Great Lakes Energy app, or by calling 888-485-2537. Visit gtlakes.com/power-outages/ for updates.
