Boyne City, MI – Great Lakes Energy line crews, supported by contract and mutual aid teams, worked late into the night to restore power to approximately 2,000 members. As of this morning, around 33,000 members remain without service.
Crews are tackling widespread damage, including hundreds of downed poles, many in hard-to-reach areas. Restoration remains a lengthy process, as replacing each pole takes several hours, alongside repairing wires and clearing fallen trees.
Safety Reminder: Great Lakes Energy members are reminded to treat every downed line as if it were energized and stay a minimum of 25 feet from any downed wire, trees, or trees in lines.
Safety is the top priority when using generators during outages. Always run them outside in a clear, well-ventilated area and ensure proper connections to prevent backfeeding, which can endanger line crews. Small generators often require maintenance after extended use—check your manual for details. Learn more by watching our safety video at gtlakes.com/power-outages/.

I know everyone is working hard to get power back and I certainly appreciate it.
Is there any way to give a general estimate of when areas will be back on line? It would help with planning as the days go on. Or even an idea of where the crews are working instead of hearsay. Thanks again for all the hard work!
