- Elected to his first three-year term on Mar. 1, 1984, serving more than 37 years on the GLE board of directors.

- Secretary, Wolverine Power Cooperative Board of Directors.
- Chair, Spartan Renewable Energy.
- Director, Michigan Agricultural Commodity Marketing Association – Farm Bureau.
- Owns and operates the long-established family farm, Byl’s Lakeview Orchards.
