Electric Vehicles

As an electric cooperative, our interest in Electric Vehicles (EVs) is not just due to the fact that they are powered by electricity but also because of the many benefits they offer.

EVs are often less expensive to operate than a gasoline or diesel powered car. Plus, they often require less maintenance.

EVs have no exhaust and they’re even more environmentally friendly when you couple them with GLE’s commitment to provide more than 60% of our power from carbon-free sources.

EVs are convenient – simply plug them in. No more trips to the gas station!

EVs are fun to drive thanks to be being battery powered, there is no engine noise are they are quite zippy.

Geothermal Heat Pumps

Geothermal heating is the most efficient way to heat and cool your home. Geothermal units move heat from the ground into your home in winter or move heat from your home into the ground in the summer. See the video below from the Department of Energy for a quick explanation of how geothermal heat pumps work. Hybrid systems, like Well-Connect Geothermal, that tie into existing utilities and HVAC ductwork are also available.

Heat Pump Water Heater

Great Lakes Energy promotes Heat Pump Water Heaters (HPWH) as an efficient alternative way to heat water in our member’s homes. Heat pump water heaters are very efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective. Great Lakes Energy offers rebates and incentives internally and through Energy Optimization to our members who choose a heat pump water heater for their home.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) are an efficient way to heat and cool your home. ASHP units move heat from the outside air into your home in winter or move heat from your home to the outdoors in the summer.
